DEUTZ AG now uses a new procedure to measure the delivery reliability of its suppliers. DEUTZ's suppliers of production material to a range of its plants regularly receive a rating for their adherence to delivery schedules and specified quantities. The rating is based on recommendation 5001 published by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and it is expressed as a percentage. The various strategic procurement methods such as delivery schedule call-offs, just in time and consignment are also taken into account. This is a way for DEUTZ to express its satisfaction with suppliers who perform well or otherwise to flag up those who need to improve. DEUTZ's objective is to minimise the incidence of suppliers failing to comply with delivery schedules or quantities, therefore enhancing its own logistics processes over the long term.
Measuring delivery reliability represents a key step towards objective, comprehensive supplier assessment with the aim of long-term supplier development.
