DEUTZ and IN VIA career preparation

  • 38 young people taking part in career preparation training in 2011
  • DEUTZ supports career preparation training for the 20th year

In September 2011, 38 young people began a year-long vocational course at DEUTZ AG
as part of their IN VIA career preparation training. In the next ten months, until 30 June
2012, they will have the opportunity to try out their professional skills and interests at
DEUTZ's training centre.

IN VIA has been organising this form of career preparation training on behalf of the German
Federal Employment Agency and in cooperation with DEUTZ AG for 20 years now. The
aim is to give young people the chance of professional career preparation. As an example,
a basic metals training course at the DEUTZ training centre will familiarise them with the
techniques used in metalworking. The IN VIA participants will also be taught personal qualities,
such as reliability, self-discipline and team spirit, so that they receive the best preparation
for a vocational apprenticeship. Exercises to practise for selection tests and interviews,
tips on CV writing and applying for jobs are on the curriculum as well as lessons at a vocational
school. 86 per cent of the participants who completed the course last year started inhouse apprenticeships and 8 per cent went on external training courses. 6 per cent are in higher education
or taking a gap year doing voluntary work. In 2011, 18-year old Franziska Blaumeiser
became the first young woman who had taken part in the IN VIA programme to be offered an apprenticeship as a production engineer at DEUTZ AG.

IN VIA Katholischer Verband für Mädchen- und Frauensozialarbeit Köln e. V. (IN VIA Catholic
Association of Social Work for Girls and Women) undertakes voluntary welfare work
and is a specialised charitable organisation belonging to the German Caritas Association,
one of whose aims is to offer young people courses to prepare them for vocational training.
